Grill fire from Sulemani · The Hague since 2016
Life tastes like fire.
Lebanese and Arabic cuisine straight from the charcoal grill, on the Fluwelen Burgwal in the heart of The Hague.
The chef
The fire of Hazhar
Chef-owner Hazhar Yousif learned to grill in Sulemani, northern Iraq. He brought that charcoal, that patience and those spices with him, and since 2016 he has lit the coals here every evening.
The room
Beirut after sunset
Copper and velvet, mosaic lamps and candlelight, soft Arabic music. Step off the Fluwelen Burgwal straight into a warm, dark evening where time slows down by itself.
“As always fantastic! Yusuf is a super host, the food is delicious and not expensive.”
The menu
Everything starts with the fire
Mezze to share, meat from the charcoal, tagines that simmer for hours and sweets with honey. Plenty of meat-free choices too. 45 dishes, at your table in multiple languages. View the menu.
Al Hayat Mixed Grill

The evening
Take your time
Start with mezze and warm bread in the middle, move on to the grill, let a tagine linger and finish with sweets and mint tea. Nobody rushes you.
